I am giving Bob's a grace pass. They started in 1956 when the retail hell that currently exists around them was a beautiful salt marsh along Route 1.

Bob's lobster roll was textbook: buttered and grilled, side-split hot dog roll from Nissen Bakeries; good mayo to meat ratio; fair amount of meat; no lettuce.

I had to get a part at the Bose store across the street, otherwise I have been avoiding Bob's general area for years. From the Bose parking lot the place looked empty, I had my camera and it was an unrated lobster roll summoning me. I wasn't hungry, but this needed to be done. Bob's is a big player on the Southern Maine lobster rolls (lobster roll pun), and couldn't be overlooked. I would never consider going to Bob's in the Summer.

Prices were fair, but I attribute that to the off-season. They have two sizes of lobster roll: a regular and a large. The regular came in at $13.95 in December of '08, with a large at $17.95. The chalkboard menu indicated a regular lobster roll was $12.95, but they said the sign was too high to update it and prices had gone up. I thought that was uncool. They do not serve a crab roll and it is a shame because it would be good and reasonably priced.
