Waterman's Beach Lobster: James Beard Award

I went to validate the hype surrounding the James Beard award. I like so many things about Waterman's, but I really just came to rate the lobster roll.

The meat sweetness was outstanding and it was clear they batch up small amounts of lobster salad throughout the day. Mayo ratio was perfect. Here's the problem: HAMBURGER ROLL, and made by Wonder for that matter. I had determined the hamburger bun is a Thomaston, Rockland, Camden thing and that I might be on shaky ground there for criticizing.

I love the fact that their menu is very limited, that means they really focus on the limited offerings. There is no fryolator. The picnic tables along the beach offer stunning views. The clientele was almost all families having a "picnic" with BYOB wine and salads they brought from home.

Prices were really reasonable, but not as cheap as the Keag Store up the road. I'd give them five stars if it weren't for that hamburger bun from Wonder. Can't they at least get them from Nissen? 2012 Update: I drove by the JJ Nissen bakery in Biddeford- they are also Wonder, no wonder. Hostess is JJ Nissen
