Cameron's Lobster Shack: Formerly Morse Lobster Shack

Cameron's Lobster Shack
18 Bath Rd
Brunswick, ME 04011
(207) 725-2886

July 2012 Update:

Morse is no more and now Cameron's Lobster Shack. Essentially a mere signage change. Still great food and the staff has not changed.

April 2012 Update:
The regular (large) roll still $13.95 and the small is $10.95.  So here's the deal with Morse's near Fatboy: the Morse familly owns the building, but the restauarant in leased and the food is prepared by non Morse lobster people. The Morse  family owns Holbrook's and Estes. I consider Mr. Morse to be some sort of lobster roll baron- I don't know him.  That family does a damn fine job with seafood, preserving the Maine experience, and value.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gives lifetime achievment awards (they are called something else- Special Award or something) to people like Sir Alec Guiniess and Eli Wallach , I would give one to the Morse family for their continued work with the lobster. Anyhow, the Brunswick location is soon to lose the Morse name, the new name is to be determined. The lessees do a fantastic job and they are on par with a Morse establishment. The image of the roll above is from the 2012 visit. BT Dubs, their coleslaw is excellent and a proper Maine hotdog, although not bright red, is served with chips and a pickle for $1.95.

April 2008 Update:
Still just as good and a larger lobster roll set me back $13.95

Oringinal 2007 Review:

I recently took my motorcycle on a tour of select Maine seafood shacks and burger joints. I ate at 10 restaurants in 2 days. I would have eaten more, but some that I had planned for were closed. I was searching for places that were uniquely Maine, like: piccalilli on a burger; dark red steamed hot dogs; split top grilled hot dog buns; bean suppers....Some of you may know about that certain Maine je nais se quois I was looking for. I didn't really find it here, but I found the best lobster roll I've ever had, and I've had a few. The meat was sweet and juicy; all claw and knuckle meat (which I prefer); no celery; all big meaty chunks; the cook waived a jar of Hellman's over it and then served on a toasted split top hot dog bun without lettuce. It was sublime.

They have 2 sizes of lobster rolls, which is cool for the budget minded- 9 bucks for the small and 15 for the large. I had a small and it was perfect, especially since I had just left Fat Boy's Drive-In about 15 minutes prior.

As far as the location, it was missing the seaside atmosphere you would get at Morse's Wharf in Harpswell. The drive in style burger joint is just down the road a piece from Fat Boys Drive In. It used to be a competitor called Earnie's. Skip the line at Red's in Wiscasset and head to Morse's. When I went down to their Wharf on Allen Road in Harpswell it was closed or no longer operating- it was a beautiful spot on the water. If the same lobster roll were served there, Heaven would be a compromise.
